Experience the essence of Catalonia with a day of wine, history, and breathtaking views!
Begin your day with a guided visit and wine tasting at a boutique winery in the renowned Penedès region. In the afternoon, explore the iconic 1000-year-old monastery of Montserrat, nestled in the dramatic mountains just west of Barcelona.
About the Tour
Your experience begins with a private visit to a premier winery in the Penedès wine region, just 40 minutes from Barcelona. You’ll enjoy a guided field tour, learn about the region’s winemaking traditions, and savor a tasting of three select wines or cavas. The visit offers an intimate and relaxing way to discover one of Catalonia’s most celebrated wine areas.
After the winery, you’ll enjoy a delicious, traditional 3-course Catalan lunch at a countryside restaurant near Montserrat.
In the afternoon, your guide will take you up the mountain to Montserrat, home to one of Catalonia’s most important pilgrimage sites. According to legend, in the 9th century, shepherds discovered an image of the Virgin Mary—the Black Madonna—in a cave on the mountain. A church was eventually built on the site in the 11th century, and by the 12th century, Montserrat had become a destination for pilgrims from around Europe.
The Monastery of the Virgin, founded in 1025, has been rebuilt several times—most notably after being destroyed by Napoleon’s troops in 1811—and was beautifully restored in the late 19th and early 20th centuries by leading Catalan Modernist architects, including Gaudí. In fact, Montserrat’s organic shapes and spiritual resonance greatly influenced Gaudí’s design of the Sagrada Familia.
At Montserrat, you’ll visit the basilica, see the famous Black Madonna (La Moreneta), and have time to take a short walk to the Santa Cova, the cave where the Madonna was said to be found.
Gothic and Modernist architecture, awe-inspiring landscapes, delicious food, and world-class wine — all in one day.
